ROCHESTER, Minn. - The NJCAA has released the brackets for the National tournaments this week. Nine NIACC wrestlers who wrestled in the North Central District Championships on February 11 are currently going to the national meet. None of them have a first round bye.
All ranks are according to the NJCAA polls released on February 16.
At 125,
Andres Torres will go up against No.3 Jeff Vesta of Neosho County Community College (KS). Torres placed fourth at the district championships. Vesta is a returning All-American that placed second in the West Central District.
Kirk Sallis was listed in the 133 bracket on Monday, but is no longer in the bracket and is out.
North Central District champion and No. 5 at 141
Wismit Moinius will face Travis Fuller of Triton Community College (IL). Fuller got into the tournament on a wildcard.
Victor Diaz got into the tournament on a wildcard at 149 and will go against No. 3 Nathaniel Garcia of Northwest Kansas Technical College. Diaz was sixth during the North Central District tournament, while Garcia won the West Central District Championship.
In the 157 bracket, Gibson Metellus takes on top-ranked Justin Pencook of Gloucester County College (NJ). Metellus was seventh in the district meet. Pencook is the champion at 157 in the Eastern District II Championships.
Justin Head also made the national meet by wildcard after placing sixth in the district meet. He will take on No. 3 Bernie Dupuy of Northwest Kansas Technical College in the first round of the 165 tournament. Dupuy was second in the West Central District Championship.
No. 7
Jameel Bryant will take on Kyle Sweedman of North Idaho College. Bryant was second in the district tournament, while Sweedman is a wildcard from the West District.
At 184, No. 5
Basil Minto will wrestle Mateo Rojas of Spartanburg Methodist College (SC). Minto won the district title, and Rojas made the tournament on a wildcard.
Michael Guerrero will go up against 197's No. 4 Rudi Burtschi of Clackamas Community College (OR). Burtschi is a returning All-American that won the West District title. Guerrero placed fifth to make it out of the North Central District.
Mark Tiedemann was fifth at the district meet at 285, and he will match up against Gabe Barry of Lincoln College (IL). Barry was third in the Central District.
