MASON CITY – NIACC outfielder Tanner Unkel will play baseball next season at Georgetown College, an NAIA school in Georgetown, Ky.
Georgetown, a member of the Mid-South Conference, was 36-19 in 2013 and qualified for the NAIA championships as an at-large team.
MASON CITY — Clear Lake left-handed pitcher Gavin Sheakley has committed to play baseball at NIACC next season.
Sheakley is 6-0 with a 0.85 earned run average for the top-ranked (3A) Lions heading into Tuesday's nonconference doubleheader at Mason City. The southpaw has 60 strikeouts and 14 walks and opponents are hitting .129 against him.
MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore pitcher Tim Black has verbally committed to play baseball next season at Central Michigan University.
Central Michigan is a NCAA Division I school located in Mount Pleasant, Mich. and is a member of the Mid-American Conference.
MASON CITY - NIACC baseball recruit Dan Pellinen was drafted in the 40th round of the MLB draft by the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.
Pellinen, who signed with NIACC in February, hit .553 with 25 stolen bases during his senior season at North Woods High School in Wisconsin.
As a junior, Pellinen, who is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, hit .413 with six doubles and 13 RBIs.
MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore pitcher Joey Reed committed Thursday to play baseball next season at Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
Reed (Lindstrom, Minn.) was 3-5 with a 3.12 earned run average with 29 strikeouts and 14 walks in 49 innings pitched during his sophomore season. Reed started NIACC's fourth game at the NJCAA Division II World Series against Murray State but left in the fourth inning with a shoulder injury.
