NIACC women fall to Trinity Valley, 78-73

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The No. 10 (NJCAA Division II) NIACC women's basketball team dropped a 78-73 decision to No. 4 (NJCAA Division I) Trinity Valley CC out of Texas Friday night on the Johnson County CC campus.

NIACC (4-1 overall) led 44-30 at the half. Trinity Valley outscored the Lady Trojans 28-16 in the third quarter and outscored NIACC 20-13 in the final 10 minutes to claim the come-from-behind victory.

Curtessia Dean led Trinity Valley with 23 points and Arleighshya McElroy scored 22 points.

NIACC was led by freshman Mandy Willems with 23 points, including a 5 of 10 performance from 3-point range. Freshman Jada Buford, who was 5 of 9 from 3-point range, scored 21 points.

Willems is 31 of 69 from 3-point range this season (44.9 percent).

Also for the Lady Trojans, Tahya Campbell scored 12 points and Alexa Loftus scored 11 points.

Autam Mendez led NIACC with seven rebounds and four assists. Campbell had six rebounds and four assists and Loftus and Willems both grabbed six rebounds.

NIACC returns to action Saturday against No. 5 (NJCAA Division II) Johnson County CC. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
