NIACC wins pair at Yellowjacket Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The NIACC volleyball team improved to 8-3 Friday with a pair of wins at the RCTC Yellowjacket Invitational.

NIACC topped Harper College 17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 and stopped College of DuPage 25-17, 25-9, 25-18.

"It was fun to watch the team compete (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "They were totally in their element and enjoying the game of volleyball.

"They worked on lots of little things throughout the day. Our defense stepped up and was solid for both matches."

On Friday, sophomore Kennedy Meister led NIACC with 24 kills, 13 digs and five ace serves. Also, Becca Steffen had 47 assists, eight kills, 15 digs and four blocks.

Also, Shelby Heston had 13 kills, 10 digs and five blocks, Alexa Loftus had 13 kills and eight digs, Bri Powers had 19 digs, Tessa Sienknecht collected 14 assists, seven ace serves and 10 digs, Megan Hollander had eight kills, Kayla Lentz had 25 digs, Sarah Kimberly had four kills and two blocks and Braylee Wood had 10 blocks and four kills.

NIACC returns to action Saturday at the Yellowjacket Invitational. The Lady Trojans face Rock Valley College at 1 p.m. and RCTC at 5 p.m.
