No. 20 NIACC sweeps Northeast CC, 3-0

MASON CITY - There's a three-way tie atop the ICCAC volleyball standings.

After Wednesday's league matches, No. 20 NIACC, No. 11 Iowa Central and Northeast CC all sit in first place with 5-1 marks.

NIACC handed Northeast CC its first league loss Wednesday with a 3-0 victory. The Lady Trojans (21-6 overall) won 25-21, 25-18, 25-21.

"(Wednesday) was all about who we are as a team instead of who we were playing," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We are so incredibly proud of the commitment our team has to each other and the process of getting better.

"(Wednesday) was a complete team effort."

No. 20 Kirkwood (3-3 in the league) gave the Tritons their first ICCAC loss with a 3-2 victory in Cedar Rapids.

NIACC has league matches remaing at Ellsworth on Oct. 16, at home against Iowa Lakes on Oct. 23 and at Iowa Central on Oct. 23.

In Wednesday's sweep of Northeast CC, sophomore Kennedy Meister collected 14 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Freshman Becca Steffen had six kills, 24 assists, three ace serves and eight digs.

Also for the Lady Trojans, Bri Powers had 13 digs, Tessa Sienknecht had five assists and seven digs, Megan Hollander had kills, three digs and five blocks, Kayla Lentz had 11 digs, 

Shelby Heston had nine kills, two ace serves, seven digs and two blocks, Hannah Hanson had three blocks and Alexa Loftus had three kills and six digs.
