Three NIACC student-athletes earn ICCAC player of week honors
MASON CITY – Three NIACC student-athletes were selected as ICCAC athletes of the week for the week of Dec. 22-Jan.4.
NIACC freshman Anna Stene was the women's wrestler of the week. NIACC freshman Ciara Seifert was the women's basketball player of the week and sophomore Jacob Martin was the men's basketball player of the week.
At 124 pounds, Stene went 2-0 this past week at NIACC's Battle for the Helmet tournament to claim an individual title. In her two matches at the tournament, Stene left no doubt by winning each match by fall, pinning her opponents.
Both matches were against Chloe Sokolik from Hawkeye CC. In the first match, Stene recorded the pin at six minutes. In the second match, she earned the fall at 3:51.
The event improved Stene's season record to 2-2 overall.
Stene was the first NIACC women's wrestler to earn the league's weekly honor since Valerie Smith won the award for the week of Feb. 3-9, 2025.
Stene shared the award with Hawkeye CC's Mackenzie Arends.
In women's basketball, Seifert won the weekly award for the second time this season. She also won the award for the week of Nov. 17-13, 2025.
Seifert, who shared the award with Iowa Lakes' Zoey Wooten and Iowa Western's Aniyah Howard, scored a career-high 26 points with 14 rebounds, four steals and one assist in the Trojans' convincing 109-58 win over Central CC-Columbus on Jan. 3.
It was Seifert's sixth double/double of the season.
In men's basketball, Martin also won the award for the second time this season. Martin also was honored for his performance during the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2, 2025.
Martin, who shared the award with Iowa Central's Jordan Cain, scored 26 points with six assists and two rebounds in the Trojans' 81-72 win over Central CC-Columbus on Jan. 3.
It was Martin's sixth 20-point game of the season.
