NIACC's Hergert wins IHSBCA 2-year coach of year award
DES MOINES - NIACC baseball coach Travis Hergert was selected as the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association 2-year coach of the year for the third time Saturday night.
Hergert also won the award in 2013 and 2015.
NIACC was 47-16 in 2016 and qualified for the NJCAA Division II World Series for the third time in four seasons.
Also at the IHSBCA awards banquet Saturday, Mason City High baseball coach Troy Rood and NIACC athletic director Dan Mason received the Bill and Sherry Freese Contributor of the Year award. Mason City and NIACC hosted the IHSBCA all-star series in August of 2016.
The Globe Gazette's Jared Patterson was the Central district media award winner.
