NIACC's Van Vliet selected first-team all-region
MASON CITY - For the fourth straight season, the NIACC men's basketball team has landed player on the all-region first team.
NIACC sophomore Boy Van Vliet earned first-team all-NJCAA Region XI honors and sophomore Trei Mitchell was an honorable mention selection
NIACC's Al Davis was a first-team selection in 2015 and David Humphries was a first-team pick in 2013 and 2014.
Van Vliet, who was also a NJCAA Region XI all-tournament selection, was second in the ICCAC in scoring averaging 19.4 points per game for the Trojans, who advanced to the regional semifinals. Van Vliet was second in the league with 56 steals, third in the league with 108 assists and fourth in the league with 71 3-point goals.
Van Vliet scored 816 career points, which is tied for 24th in school history. He ranks 11th on the school's career list with 100 3-point goals, tied for 15th on the career school list with 99 steals and is 18th on the school career list with 183 assists.
Mitchell averaged 8.6 points per game and led the league with 66 steals and ranked second in the league with 120 assists for the Trojans, who were 16-15 overall this season.
Mitchell ranks 22nd on the school's career list with 170 assists and is also 22nd with 92 career steals.
