Sophomores lead NIACC past DMACC, 65-61
MASON CITY - Sophomore night was a memorable one for the NIACC sophomores Wednesday night.
Sophomore Boy Van Vliet scored 22 points with six rebounds, five assists and three steals and sophomore Trei Mitchell scored 20 points with six assists and three steals to lead the NIACC men's basketball team to a 65-61 victory over DMACC in the NIACC gym.
Mitchell was 6 of 9 from 3-point range as the Trojans were 11 of 24 beyond the arc.
Wednesday's victory snapped an eight-game conference losing streak for the Trojans.
NIACC led 31-28 at the half and outscored the Bears 34-33 in the second half to pick up its second ICCAC win of the season. NIACC (15-12 overall) improved to 2-8 in the league heading into next Wednesday's game at Iowa Lakes.
The Trojans also received 10 points and five rebounds from freshman Luke Mascall-Wright.
It was the final regular season home game for NIACC sophomores Van Vliet, Mitchell, Angus Mitchell and James Wanjara and the final regular season home game for freshman Chase Lester and Cordele Jackson.
