NIACC men fall to Ellsworth, 84-81
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped an 84-81 decision to Ellsworth Saturday in ICCAC action in the NIACC gym.
NIACC trailed by 16 points in the first half and trailed 46-36 at the half, but managed to tie the game at 81-81 before Ellsworth hit a 3-point basket with five seconds remaining to gain the league win.
Sophomore Boy Van Vliet led the Trojans with 32 points. Van Vliet also had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Freshman Luke Mascall-Wright scored 19 points and freshman Court Christianson scored 11 points.
Sophomore Trei Mitchell scored nine points and had seven assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Notes: Van Vliet has 517 career points ... Van Vliet has 62 3-point goals (26th on school's career list) ... Van Vliet has 153 career assists, which ranks 27th on NIACC's career list ... Mitchell has 124 career assists, which ranks 39th on NIACC's career list ... Mitchell has 45 steals this season, which is tied for 48th on the school's single-season list.
