NIACC falls to Ellsworth on mat, 30-11
MASON CITY - No. 9 Ellsworth topped No. 2 NIACC 30-11 Wednesday in an ICCAC dual meet Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.
Ellsworth won seven of the 10 matches to split the two matches against NIACC this season. NIACC won the first dual 24-19 on Nov. 6 in Iowa Falls.
Picking up wins for the Trojans were Clarence Lee-Green (125), fourth-ranked Christian Minto (165) and ninth-ranked Holton Truax (197).
Lee-Green (15-5) topped Ellsworth's Dennis McNeal 4-3 in the first match on the dual.
Minto (15-0) remained unbeaten in his collegiate career with a 20-5 technical fall victory over the Panthers' Cameron Nesbitt. Truax (10-3) outscored the Panthers' Trayvonne Jackson 16-11 for the final Trojan win of the dual.
In the 149-pound match, Ellsworth's top-ranked Cardionte Wilson nipped NIACC's second-ranked Tony Mendoza 5-3 in sudden victory. Mendoza tied the contest at 3-3 with a late takedown in the third period.
NIACC (4-1 in duals) returns to action Thursday in a dual meet at Minnesota West. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
