NIACC men fall to Ellsworth, 83-76
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped a 83-76 decision to Ellsworth Wednesday on Vance Baird Night in the NIACC gym.
Ellsworth, which led 33-28 at the half, outscored the Trojans 50-48 in the second half to claim the 7-point ICCAC victory.
Ellworth was led by Darius Lasley with 20 points and six rebounds. Isaiah Johnson and LJ Harris both scored 12 points for the Panthers.
Freshman guard Orrington Hamilton scored 23 points to lead NIACC. Sophomore Jaycob Payne scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second career double-double.
It was the third double-double of the season for the NIACC men. Payne scored 14 points with 10 rebounds against Harper College on Nov. 11 and Nick Wurm scored 35 points with 10 rebounds against the Augustana College junior varsity on Dec. 10.
Also Wednesday, Wurm scored 18 points. Izaya Sims scored nine points with six rebounds.
NIACC (11-7 overall, 0-3 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday at DMACC. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Boone.
