MASON CITY - After splitting a pair of games on Saturday, the NIACC and Southwestern softball teams split another ICCAC doubleheader on Sunday on the NIACC campus.
On Sunday, NIACC (8-14 overall, 6-14 in the ICCAC) won the first game 17-8 in five innings and Southwestern claimed the second game 16-7 in five innings.
In the first game, NIACC scored five runs in the first inning and plated six runs in the second inning. The Lady Trojans also scored six runs in the fourth inning to puth their total to 17 - their highest run total of the season.
NIACC's Macy Alexander was 3 for 4, including a home run and two doubles, with six RBIs. It was the third straight game that a NIACC player drove in six runs in a contest as Hailey Worman collected six RBIs in both games of Saturday's twinbill.
Worman was 3 for 3 in Sunday's first game.
NIACC's Kayla Noelker was 2 for 4, including a two-run home run. Kennadi Colbert was 2 for 3 and Anna Lensing was 2 for 3.
NIACC ended Sunday's first game with a triple play in the fifth inning. Colbert, who was playing center field, caught a fly ball for the first out, threw to third baseman Ravyn Krachey for second out on runner who tried to advance and Krachey threw to second baseman Sydni Coleman who tagged out runner trying to advance from first to second.
In the second game, Southwestern (15-20-1, 8-12) used a nine-run second inning to propel the Spartans to the nine-run victory.
NIACC scored a single run in the first inning, two runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning.
NIACC's McKenna Mentink was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
NIACC returns to action Tuesday at home against Iowa Central in an ICCAC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
