Trojans' DeLong wins Waldorf Challenge
LAKE MILLS - Another day, another tournament title for NIACC's Meghan DeLong.
DeLong, a freshman from Clear Lake, shot a 73 to claim individual medalist honors Monday at the Waldorf University Challenge at the Rice Lake Golf Course.
Monday's tournament title came a day after she shot 72 to win the Waldorf University Fall Invitational in Albert Lea, Minn. The 72 was the lowest score by a NIACC women's golfer in the Chris Frenz era, which started in 2006.
It's the fourth individual title for DeLong in the fall season. DeLong's other two wins this fall were at the NIACC Fall Invitational and the Buena Vista Fall Invitational.
"Meghan is on a roll," Frenz said. "To follow up a great win (Sunday) with another one (Monday) is awesome.
"I said it yesterday but her tee to green is top notch right now. She's seeing the shot she needs to hit and then executing that shot. It's fun to watch and she's having even more fun playing."
NIACC placed third in the team standings with a 347. Simpson College was the team champion with a 332 and host Waldorf was second with a 335.
"Finishing third is a solid finish for us," Frenz said. "Waldorf and Simpson are good teams so to to get in there behind them was nice."
Also for the Trojans Monday, freshman Addy Boell shot a career-best round of 87, freshman Ashlyn Berven shot 93, sophomore Paige Danger shot 94 and freshman Kaiya Holten shot 117.
"I'm really happy with Addy Boell and her round (Monday)," Frenz said. "She's really coming on as we start to wind down the fall season. It just took her a little while to start getting comfortable."
NIACC returns to action Friday at the Hawkeye CC Redtail Fall Classic at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike.
