NIACC men to compete in NJCAA national half marathon
FORT DODGE - Six members of the national champion NIACC men's cross country team will compete in the NJCAA national half marathon on Tuesday.
The 13.1 mile race through Fort Dodge and will finish at Kennedy Park is set to start at 10:10 a.m. at the Crimmins Building on the Iowa Central campus.
Competing for the Trojans will be Melvin Kipkemboi, Vicente Correia, Jalen Petersen, Stephen Ringo, Richard Marcoux and Caleb Sledd.
The NIACC men claimed the NJCAA Division II national cross country title on Saturday at Lakeside Golf Course with Kipkemboi claiming the individual national title in a time of 24 minutes, 58 seconds on the 8-kilometer course.
Correia (11th in 26:29) and Petersen (12th in 26:33) both earned NJCAA all-American honors at Saturday's national cross country meet.
Stephen Ringo was NIACC's fifth scorer on Saturday as he placed 28th in a time of 27:18. Richard Marcoux was 35th (27:36).
At last season's NJCAA half marathon in El Paso, Texas, Petersen placed 17th in a time of 1:17.32, which is the third best half marathon time in school history. Ringo was 39th at last year's half marathon in 1:26.18.
