NIACC men place 3rd at NJCAA half marathon championships
FORT DODGE - The NIACC men placed third at the NJCAA Division I national half marathon championships Tuesday morning with 32 points.
Iowa Central was the half-marathon national champion with 15 points and Cloud County CC was second with 20 points.
NIACC, which won the NJCAA Division II national cross country championship on Saturday, was led by freshman Melvin Kipkemboi, who placed eighth in a school record time of 1 hour, 10 minutes and 57 seconds. Kipkemboi broke the school record of 1:12.37 held by Sapolai Yao in 2012.
Also scoring for the Trojans were Vicente Correia, who was 11th in 1:11.49, and Jalen Petersen, who was 15th in a personal best 1:13.01.
Also for the Trojans, Richard Marcoux was 25th in 1:16.29 and Stephen Ringo was 35th in a personal best time of 1:20.19. Running unattached for the Trojans was Caleb Sledd, who was 29th in 1:17.06
