NIACC's Hanson places 45th at nationals
FORT DODGE - NIACC freshman Hailey Hanson placed 45th on Saturday in the NJCAA Division II women's 5-kilometer race at snowy Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.
Hanson covered the snowy and wet course in a time of 21 minutes, 1 second to help lead the Trojans to a 27th place finish with 680 team points.
NIACC sophomore Bridget Canton was 50th in a time of 21:06. The Trojans' sophomore Olivia Spurling was 70th in 21:33.
Canton inproved 116 places on Saturday from the 2024 national meet where she placed 166th in 22:10.
It's the second straight season that the Trojans have had at least one runner in the top 50 at the national meet. At the 2024 national meet in Richmond, Va., Spurling placed 40th.
Also for the Trojans, Jennifer Carranza was 294th (27:03), Zoey Dreckman was 295th (27:03) and Allison Lensing was 314th (29:51).
Mesa CC was the NJCAA Divsion II women's team champion with 54 points. Paradise Valley was second with 87 points and Daytona State College was third with 220 points.
Paradise Valley's Arianna Mason was the individual national champion in a time of 18:43 and Roane State's Savannah Rivera was the national runner-up in 18:47.
DMACC plaed eighth with 303 points and Southeastern CC was 17th with 583 points.
