NIACC completes sweep of Iowa Central

FORT DODGE - For the first time in the Travis Hergert era, the NIACC baseball team swept an ICCAC series from Iowa Central.

NIACC topped Iowa Central 4-0 and 7-3 on Sunday to complete the four-game sweep. The Trojans won the first two games of the series on Saturday (5-2 and 10-7).

In the first game on Sunday, left-hander Tom Skoro tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and four walks.

It was NIACC's first shutout in an ICCAC regular season game since the Trojans blanked Kirkwood 7-0 on April 18, 2015.

The Trojans (24-17-1 overall, 13-6-1 in the ICCAC) scored one run in the first inning, plated two runs in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh inning.

Kamrin Arons drove in two runs for the Trojans. Also driving in runs were Shane Kelleher and Jacob Hansen.

In the second game, sophomore left-hander Brandon Williamson improved his record to 6-3. He allowed three first inning runs (2 earned) and accumulated 11 strikeouts with walks in 6 2/3 innings pitched.

Sophomore Spencer Chirpich pitched the final two innings to pick up his first career save.

Arons and Hansen both drove in two runs. The Trojans also received RBIs from Kelleher, Joey Werner and Ezequias Encarnacion.

NIACC sits in third place in the league standings with its 13-6-1 mark. Kirkwood is the league leader at 12-3-1 and Southeastern is in second at 15-4-1.

NIACC returns to action Tuesday in its home opener against Marshalltown CC. The nine-inning contest is slated to start at 3 p.m.
