BOONE - The NIACC baseball team dropped an ICCAC doubleheader at DMACC on Friday on a cold and windy day on the DMACC campus.
DMACC (14-7 overall, 2-0 in the ICCAC) won the first game 6-3 and completed the league sweep with a 5-3 victory in the second game.
In the first game, DMACC scored two runs in the first inning, plated three runs in the second inning and pushed across a single run in the fifth inning.
NIACC (10-7, 0-2) received a two-run home run from Jon Koehn, his second of the season, in the third inning. Koehn, who also had a double, was 3 for 3.
The Trojans also added a single run in the sixth inning.
Jacob Mrosko (2-2) took the loss on the mound for the Trojans. Mrosko allowed six runs on four hits with seven strikeout and two walks in five innings of work.
In the second game, NIACC led 3-2 after six innings, but the Bears plated three runs in their half of the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Cayden Nicoletto, Cole Fuecker and Bennett McCollow all collected RBIs for the Trojans. Nicoletto had two of the Trojans' five hits.
NIACC starter Thomas Gross struck out eight and walked five in four innings of work and left the game with a 3-2 lead. Gross allowed two runs (one earned) and gave up six hits.
Gross now has 94 career strikeouts, which ranks 14th on the school's career strikeout list. Gross had 59 strikeouts in 2021 and has 35 strikeouts in five starts this season.
The third game of the series is set for 2 p.m. Sunday in Boone.
