FORT DODGE - The NIACC volleyball team split its two matches Saturday at the Iowa Central Invitational.
NIACC (8-6 overall) edged Seminole State College 3-2 winning by the scores of 25-18, 15-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-7. The Trojans dropped a 3-0 decision to Madison College falling 18-25, 18-25, 9-25.
"Although, we didn't end up playing like we know we can, we started the day very strong," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We were able to use our offensive weapons because our defense was so strong.
"We have been battling some injuries and we are excited to have a week with only one match so we can hopefully get our bodies the rest they need."
Freshman Jocelynn Coleman led the Trojans with 23 kills, five blocks and two digs. Hannah Brinkman and Brielle Volker both had 11 kills.
Volker also had 21 digs and six ace serves. Brinkman had four ace serves, four digs and five blocks.
Also for the Trojans, Kinsey Anderson had 24 digs and one ace serve, Bailey Dagestad had 10 kills, four digs and five blocks and Kayden Muller had seven kills.
NIACC's Megan Tobin had eight kills, four digs and two blocks, Kenedee Frayne had 36 assists, 13 digs and one ace serve, Kendal VanMinsel had 22 assists, eight digs and three ace serves and Carissa Timmerman had 37 digs and five assists.
NIACC returns to action Thursday in an ICCAC contest at Southeaster CC. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. in West Burlington.
