Trojans fall to Southwestern CC, 17-14
MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team dropped a 17-14 in 11 innings decision to Southwestern CC Wednesday afternoon at Roosevelt Field.
Southwestern CC (9-29 overall, 5-15 in the ICCAC) won the contest by scoring three runs in the top of the 11th inning and holding the Trojans scoreless in their final at-bat.
NIACC tied the contest at 12-12 by scoring three runs in its ninth-inning at-bat. The key hit in the inning for the Trojans was a two-run home run over the right-field fence by Lincoln Becker.
Both teams scored two runs in their 10th inning at-bats to knot the score at 14-14.
The game that last four hours and 20 minutes had 31 total runs, 28 total hists and 13 total errors.
NIACC took a 6-0 lead after the first inning. The Trojans sent 11 batters to the plate in the first frames on four hits and three Southwestern CC errors.
Jacob Neutz drove in two runs for the Trojans in the first inning with a single to left field.
Becker drove in the two Trojan runs in the 10th inning with a two-out single. The Trojans' Justyn Rivera collected three hits, including two doubles.
NIACC's George McIntyre, Neutz and Tommy Lyman all had two hits.
NIACC (14-26, 7-14) returns to action Friday and Saturday with a 3-game home series against Iowa Western. Friday's twinbill at Roosevelt Field is slated to start at 1 p.m.
