MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team swept Iowa Lakes Saturday in an ICCAC twinbill at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC (16-30 overall, 9-18 in the ICCAC) won the opener 3-0 and took the second game 8-1.
In the opener, Zack Johnson (3-2) gained the win for the Trojans. The redshirt freshman right-hander allowed no runs on one hit with six strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.
Carson Bantz gained his second save of the season by pitching the final two innings allowing no runs on three hits.
It was the Trojans' first shutout since they blanked Missouri State University-West Plains 2-0 and 10-0 in a doubleheader on March 24 in Millington, Tenn.
NIACC's George McIntyre was 3 for 4, including a double, with one RBI. The Trojans' Lincoln Becker was 2 for 4, including a double, with an RBI.
NIACC's Hudson Waldow was 2 for 3, including a double.
In the second game, Caden Watson (3-1) gained the win for the Trojans. Watson, a freshman right-hander from Sioux Falls, S.D., allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work.
NIACC's John Skoro held the Lakers scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings. Skoro, who allowed one hit, struck out four and walked one.
NIACC scored two runs in the first and second innings, pushed across a single run in the fourth inning and added three insurance runs in the fifth inning.
NIACC's Tommy Lyman and Henry Mattox both had two hits and an RBI. McIntyre had a double and an RBI.
NIACC and Iowa Lakes wrap up their three-game series with a single game on Sunday at Roosevelt Field. The single nine-inning game is slated to start at noon.
