NORFOLK, Neb. - The NIACC baseball team split an ICCAC twinbill with Northeast CC Saturday afternoon.
Northeast CC won the opener 12-2 in five innings with the help of a 10-run first inning.
NIACC salvaged a split in the doubleheader with a 7-5 win in the nightcap. Mason Nadolney hit a 3-run home run, his fourth of the season, in the second inning as the Trojans collected 12 hits.
The second game was tied 5-5 after six innings. NIACC scored a single run in the seventh inning and added an insurance run in the ninth inning to pick up its first conference win of the season.
Hunter Day, who gained the win in relief for the Trojans, did not allow run and only two hits in his four innings of work. Day, who relieved starter Johnny Czeslawski in the fifth inning, struck out six and walked three.
Brandt Thompson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to gain his first career save for the Trojans.
Also in the second game for NIACC, Thomas Gross was 4 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Logan Milene was 3 for 5 and scored a run.
In the first game, NIACC received a solo home run from Nic Nelson.
NIACC and Northeast CC wrap up their four-game series on Sunday.
