MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team split an ICCAC doubleheader with No. 13 Southeastern Saturday at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC won the first game 6-4 and dropped the nightcap 12-6.
In the first game, Nic Nelson hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Trojans a 6-4 lead. Brian Williams singled to start the fifth inning and Nelson followed with his fourth home run of the season.
Frank Volkers held Southeastern scoreless for the final 2 1/3 innings to pick up his first collegiate win.
NIACC scored three runs in the third inning and a single run in the second inning. Ben Tallman drove in two runs with a double in the third inning and Jon Koehn plated the run in the second inning with a double.
NIACC starter Brandt Thompson struck out a career-high eight with one walk and one hit batter in 4 2/3 innings of work.
In the second game, Southeastern's Arturo Disla hit three home runs five RBIs as the Blackhawks collected 12 hits to score their 12 runs.
NIACC scored four runs in the third inning and added single runs in the fifth and sixth frames. Brian Williams hit a three-run home run in the third inning (his first of the season).
NIACC's Noah Juliar hit a solo home run in the fifth inning - his second home run of the season.
NIACC and Southeastern wrap up their four-game series on Sunday at Roosevelt Field. The first game is slated to start at noon.
