MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team dropped an ICCAC doubleheader to Kirkwood Thursday at Roosevelt Field.
Kirkwood (15-14 overall, 11-7 in the ICCAC) won the first game 4-0 and rallied from an 11-5 deficit after eight innings to win the second game 12-11.
In the second game, NIACC led 9-3 after seven innings. The Eagles closed the gap to 9-5 with two runs in their half of the eighth inning but the Trojans pushed the lead back to six runs with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
In the ninth inning, Kirkwood scored seven runs on five hits and took advantage of four NIACC walks and a hit by pitch.
NIACC stranded runners at second and third in its half of the ninth inning.
NIACC's Mason Nadolney hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
In the first game, Kirkwood's Reece Beuter pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout. Beuter struck out nine and walked one.
The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
NIACC (8-15, 3-13) returns to action Saturday and Sunday in a four-game ICCAC series at Southwestern.
