MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team pushed its winning streak to seven games in dramatic fashion Monday at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC, which topped Marshalltown CC in Monday's opening game 7-1, won the second game 8-7 with a walk-off sacrifice fly by Thomas Gross in the bottom of the ninth inning.
NIACC, which has not lost since April 18, improved its overall record to 20-19 and 15-17 in the ICCAC.
In the second game, NIACC led 5-3 after eight innings, but the Tigers took a 7-5 lead in their half of the ninth inning on a grand slam by Luke Pell.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Trojans tied the contest at 7-7 on a two-RBI single by Logan Milene. Gross then lifted a sacfrice fly to right field that scored Nic Nelson with the winning run.
NIACC starter Collin Kramer allowed one run on five hits in his seven innings of work. Kramer struck out 12 and did not walk a batter.
In the first game, Hunter Day (3-3) pitched six innings to gain the win for the Trojans. Day allowed one run and five hits with a career-high nine strikeouts and three walks.
NIACC scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning.
The Trojans received solo home runs from Nic Nelson in the fifth inning and Ayrton Laird in the sixth inning. It was the 14th straight game that the Trojans have hit at least one home run.
Both Nelson and Laird now have five home runs this season.
The Trojans saw their consecutive game home run streak end in the second game of Monday's doubleheader.
NIACC, which has won 12 of its last 14 games, returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC twinbill at Ellsworth.
