NIACC's Thomas places 5th in long jump at regionals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC sophomore Terrence Thomas placed fifth in the long jump Saturday at the NJCAA Region 11 Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Iowa Western.
Thomas earned his fifth-place finish with a leap of 7.17 meters (23 feet, 6 1/4 inches).
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, the foursome of Isaac Thompson, Octavio Padilla, Kevin Carney and Ryan Kelly placed fourth in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 8 minutes, 47.37 seconds.
NIACC sophomore Rodney Ngezimani was sixth in the discus (47.91 meters/157-2) and 11th in the javelin (33.87 meters/111-1). Ngezimani's toss in the discus ranks second on the school's all-time discus list.
NIACC freshman Marshall Zeien was eighth in the discus with a toss of 43.65 meters (143-2), which ranks fifth on the school's all-time list.
NIACC freshman Lukas Vance was 10th in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 39:24.61.
In the 100-meter dash prelims, freshman Joshua Koffi (10.79) and sophomore Tyreese James (10.81) both qualified for the finals. Koffi's time of 10.79 is tied for fifth on the school's all-time 100-meter dash list.
In the 200-meter dash prelims, sophomore Quinton Ellis (21.30) and James (21.38) both qualified for the finals. James' time of 200 was a personal best and ranks third on the school's all-time outdoor 200 list.
Koffi ran 22.00 in the 200 prelims and did not make the finals, but his time ranks eighth on the school's all-time outdoor 200 list.
