NIACC's James wins 100 at regional championships
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC sophomore Tyreese James won the 100-meter dash Sunday at the NJCAA Region 11 Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Iowa Western.
James won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.55 seconds. NIACC's Joshua Koffi placed fifth in the 100 in a time of 10.86.
NIACC, which placed fourth as a team with 74.5 team points, set two school records on Sunday.
Sophomore Quinton Ellis placed fourth in the 400 in a school record time of 47.12. He broke the record of 47.34 on May 9, 2006 by Dominque Pressley at the NJCAA national championships.
Freshman Gabe Hemsworth placed fourth in the 400 hurdles in a school record time of 55.07. Hemsworth broke his own school mark of 55.27 set at the Grand View Viking Classic on April 25, 2025.
Ellis placed second in the 200 in a time of 21.18 and James was fifth (21.90).
NIACC's Terrence Thomas placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.54 meters (44 feet, 5 1/4 inches).
NIACC's Avery Culhane placed seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.81 meters (5-11 1/4).
In the shot put, NIACC's Colin Rasch was eighth with a toss of 13.00 meters (42-8) and Marshall Zeien was ninth with a toss of 12.56 meters (41-2 1/2).
In the hammer, Zeien was eighth with a toss of 35.20 meters (115-6) and Rasch was 10th with a throw of 30.35 meters (99-7). Zeien's toss of 35.20 meters ranks ninth on the school's all-time hammer list.
NIACC placed second in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 41.27 running Koffi, James, Thomas and Ellis.
