Hemsworth sets school mark in 400 hurdles
DES MOINES - NIACC freshman Gabe Hemsworth won the 400-meter hurdles Friday at the Grand View Viking Classic in a school record time of 55.27 seconds.
Hemsworth, who is from Mount Pleasant, broke the old mark of 55.46 by Josiah Klement at the NJCAA Region 11 championships on May 7, 2023.
Also Friday, NIACC sophomore Ryan Kelly won the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:22.56. The Trojans' Joey Ringo was second in the 1,500 (4:23.50) and Lukas Vance was fourth (4:45.21).
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kelly was second in a time of 10:12.06 and Isaac Thompson was third (11:18.25).
In the 800, NIACC's Octavio Padilla was sixth in a time of 2:14.73. Ringo was eighth (2:18.00).
In the high jump, NIACC's Avery Culhane was fifth with a leap of 1.83 meters (6 feet, 0 inches).
In the hammer throw, NIACC's Rodney Ngezimani was sixth with a toss of 42.15 meters (138-3).
In the javelin, NIACC's Austin Groff was eighth with a toss of 34.40 meters (112-10).
In the shot put, Ngezimani was eigth with a toss of 13.39 meters (43-11 1/4) and Marshall Zeien was 10th with a throw of 12.13 meters (39-9 3/4).
