NIACC's Thomas places 7th at nationals in long jump
- Thomas earns all-American honors for 2nd straight season
- Ellis sets school record in 400, qualifies for finals
- Trojans set school mark in 4x100-meter relay
HUTCHINSON, Kan. - NIACC sophomore Terrence Thomas placed seventh on Thursday in the long jump at the NJCAA Division I national championships.
Thomas earned his seventh-place finish with a leap of 7.11 meters (23 feet, 4 inches) to earn USTFCCCA All-American honors.
It is the second straight season that Thomas has earned all-American honors in the long jump. Thomas earned NJCAA and USTFCCCA all-American honors as a freshman last season by placing third with a leap of 7.52 meters (24-8 1/4).
Also Thursday, NIACC set two school records. The Trojans' Quinton Ellis broke his own school record in the 400-meter preliminaries in a time of 46.38 seconds and qualified for Saturdaya's finals.
Ellis broke his own record of 47.12 at the NJCAA Region 11 championships on May 4, 2025.
NIACC's 4x100-meter relay team of Thomas, Tyreese James, Joshua Koffi and Ellis recorded a time of 40.64 in the 4x100 prelims and placed 16th. The old school mark was 40.75 by Michael Moore-Fondren, Tinashe Chigudu, Titus Jackson and Bernard Bell at the 2022 NJCAA Division I national meet.
Also Thursday, NIACC freshman Gabe Hemsworth placed 27th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.59.
