No. 5 NIACC falls to No. 10 Kirkwood
CEDAR RAPIDS - The No. 5 NIACC women's basketball team dropped a 77-71 decision to No. 10 Kirkwood in an ICCAC contest Saturday.
Kirkwood, which trailed 24-18 after the first quarter, outscored NIACC 43-21 in the second and third quarters to take a 61-45 lead into the final 10 minutes. NIACC outscored Kirkwood 26-16 in the fourth quarter to trim the final deficit to six points.
Mandy Willems led NIACC with 26 points, including five 3-point goals, and eight rebounds. Tahya Campbell scored 12 points for the Lady Trojans and Jada Buford and Autam Mendez both scored 11 points.
Kirkwood was led by Haley Mullinnix with 25 points. Mackenzie Jenkins scored 12 points.
NIACC (12-5 overall, 3-1 in the ICCAC) returns to action Sunday at home against Southeastern CC in an ICCAC contest. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
