No. 11 NIACC men start season at Iowa Central
FORT DODGE - The No. 11 NIACC men's basketball team opens the season Wednesday at Iowa Central.
Game time is slated for 7 p.m. in the Hodges Fieldhouse on the Iowa Central campus.
NIACC returns six sophomores from last year's team that was 25-7 overall and 9-5 in the ICCAC and advanced to the NJCAA Region XI title game for the second straight season. Returning for the Trojans are McKelary Robertson, Marshaun Carroll, Jaden Horton, Payton Breedlove, Blake Graham and Mike Cranshaw.
NIACC's Mark Mohl, who begins his 13th season as head coach, is 11-1 in season openers. The Trojans opened the 2019-20 season with a 119-74 victory over Hibbing CC.
Iowa Central, under first-year coach Chad Helle, was 10-20 overall and 3-11 in the ICCAC in 2019-20.
NIACC topped Iowa Central 87-80 and 81-75 in the two meetings a year ago.
NIACC has won four straight games against Iowa Central, which leads the all-time series 65-54.
After Wednesday's game, NIACC faces No. 15 DMACC, the defending NJCAA Region XI champions, on Saturday in its home opener. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 3 p.m.
