Late rally lifts NIACC past Southwestern, 83-79
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team closed the regular season with an 83-79 victory over Southwestern Saturday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
NIACC, which trailed 75-62 with less than five minutes to play in the contest, outscored the Spartans 21-4 the rest of the way to claim the four-point ICCAC victory.
Jordan Jones, who led the Trojans with 21 points, connected on a 3-point goal to put NIACC in front 76-75. Jones, who also had four rebounds and four assists, then drained another 3-pointer to put NIACC in front 79-77.
NIACC also received 20 points and eight rebounds from freshman Noah Rigatuso. McKelary Robertson scored 15 points with three rebounds, three streals and two assists.
NIACC's Jeffrey Skogen scored seven points and collected a career-high 10 rebounds. Bradley Andrews scored eight points and collected nine rebounds.
Southwestern (11-11 overall, 11-11 in the ICCAC) was led by Donzell Johnson and James Kelly with 15 points apiece.
NIACC (7-15, 7-15) opens play on Tuesday at Kirkwood in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament. Game time in Cedar Rapids is slated for 7 p.m.
