MASON CITY - The No. 21 NIACC softball team swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Ellsworth on Friday on the NIACC campus as Izzy Sloan and Macy Kellar both pitched complete-game shutouts.
NIACC (27-19 overall, 11-9 in the ICCAC) won the first game 6-0 with Sloan (13-8) tossing a four-hitter with six strikeouts and five walks. The Trojans received home runs from Ally Wall and Ella Trenkamp.
It is the second time this season that the Trojans have swept a league twinbill with a pair of shutouts. The Trojans blanked Hawkeye CC 10-0 in both contests on April 5 in Hudson.
Friday's wins were wins No. 98 and 99 at NIACC for head coach Matt Egger, who has a record of 99-90 in four seasons as the leader of the Trojan softball program.
Also for the Trojans in the opener, Makayla Wirkus was 3 for 4, including two doubles, Mya Bunkers was 2 for 4 with two RBis. Wall and Trenkamp both had two RBIs.
In the second game, Kellar (11-7) struck out six and scattered six hits in her five-inning shutout.
NIACC's Camryn Dilla hit a grand slam. Also homering for the Trojans were Wall, Bunkers and Trenkamp.
Wall and Trenkamp both drove in three runs. Thea Mattson was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
NIACC returns to action Saturday with a league home twinbill against Iowa Lakes. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
