No. 23 Trojans stop Lakers, 10-8
- NIACC wins regional tourney opener for 3rd straight season
- Riesselman drives in 3 runs to lead Trojans

BOONE - The No. 23 NIACC softball team topped Iowa Lakes 10-8 Friday in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 11-A Tournament on the DMACC campus.
It is the third straight season that the Trojans have won their opening game in the regional tournament. The Trojans have won all five meetings this season against Iowa Lakes.
Fourth-seed NIACC (34-21) scored four runs in the first inning, five runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth frame. The fifth-seeded Lakers scored three runs in the first and fifth innings and two runs in the seventh inning.
Sophomore right-hander Macy Kellar (15-8) gained the win in the circle for the Trojans. Kellar allowed eight runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
Freshman Katie Riesselman was 1 for 3, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Trojans. Freshman Mya Bunkers was 1 for 3 and drove in two runs.
NIACC's Makayla Wirkus and Camryn Dilla both had two hits and one RBI. Wirkus and Bunkers also both scored two runs.
NIACC faces top-seed DMACC in the second round of the regional tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday on the DMACC campus. The winner advances to Sunday's regional title game and the loser faces either Iowa Lakes or Hawkeye CC in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
DMACC (51-5) topped NIACC 4-2 and 6-3 in a twinbill in Mason City on April 9 and the Bears won 9-1 and 6-3 in a doubleheader in Boone on April 16.
