Trojans fall to DMACC in regional title game
BOONE - The No. 23 NIACC softball team dropped a 5-3 decision to No. 5 DMACC in the NJCAA Region 11-A title game Sunday afternoon on the DMACC campus.
Top-seed DMACC (53-5) scored three runs in the sixth inning to take its 5-3 lead.
Fourth-seed NIACC (35-23) took a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning. DMACC scored a single run in its half of the third inning to trim the NIACC lead to 3-1.
DMACC scored a single run in the fourth inning to make it a one-run contest.
NIACC took its 3-0 lead on the strength of a two-run home run from freshman Katie Riesselman.
DMACC now hosts the NJCAA Region 13 champion in the NJCAA Northwest Plains-B District Tournament May 9-10 in a best of three series. The winner of the district tournament qualifies for the NJCAA Division II national tournament set for May 19-24 in Oxford, Ala.
