No. 23 Trojans open post-season play Friday
BOONE - The No. 23 NIACC softball team opens post-season play Friday in the NJCAA Region 11-A tournament on the DMACC campus.
Fourth-seeded NIACC (33-21 overall, 17-11 in ICCAC) faces fifth-seed Iowa Lakes (30-27, 10-18) in the opening round of the tournament at 4 p.m. on Friday. Top-seed DMACC (50-5, 20-2) faces eighth-seed Hawkeye CC (11-44, 2-26) at 2 p.m. on Friday.
The winner of Friday's games meet in the second round at 2 p.m. Saturday with the winner moving to the regional title game at noon on Sunday. Friday's two losers meet in an elimination game at noon on Saturday.
DMACC enters the tournament ranked No. 4 in the final NJCAA Division II poll on April 28. NIACC was ranked No. 23 in the final poll of the regular season.
NIACC was ranked in all 11 NJCAA Division II polls this season. The Trojans were ranked No. 14 in the March 17 and March 24 polls.
For the first time in school history, the NIACC softball team won at least 30 games in three straight seasons. The Trojans were 33-23 in 2024 and 36-13 in 2023.
NIACC. under coach Tyler Sisco, was 31-21 in 2009 and 31-26 in 2010. Under Tom Dunn, NIACC was 38-10 in 1994 and 34-13 in 1995.
The winner of the NJCAA Region 11-A tournament hosts the NJCAA Region 13 champion in the NJCAA Northwest Plains-B District Tournament May 9-10 in a best of three series. The winner of the district tournament qualifies for the NJCAA Division II national tournament set for May 19-24 in Oxford, Ala.
