- NIACC wraps up regular season with record of 33-21
- Trojans open regional tournament play on Friday against Iowa Lakes
MASON CITY - The No. 22 NIACC softball team dropped an ICCAC twinbill to No. 10 Iowa Central Sunday on the NIACC campus.
Iowa Central (45-8 overall, 22-6 in the ICCAC) won the first game 5-4 in 10 innings and completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the second game.
It was the second time this season that the Trojans dropped a 5-4, 10-inning decision. The Trojans also fell to Jones College 5-4 in 10 innings in the second game of a twinbill on March 2.
In the first game, the Trojans received home runs from freshmen Mya Bunkers and Ella Trenkamp. Bunkers was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.
NIACC's Izzy Sloan was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Sloan (16-9) pitched all 10 innings allowing five runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game, Bunkers, Katie Riesselman and Kaitlyn Blair had two hits each for the Trojans. Ally Wall drove in both of NIACC's runs.
Macy Kellar (14-8) took the loss in the circle for the Trojans. Kellar allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
NIACC (33-21, 17-11) earned the fourth seed for the upcoming NJCAA Region 11-A tournament. The Trojans face fifth-seed Iowa Lakes at 4 p.m. on Friday on the DMACC campus in Boone. Top-seed DMACC faces eighth-seed Hawkeye CC in the first game at 2 p.m. on Friday.
