NIACC's Hadi places 5th at Worthington Open
WORTHINGTON, Minn. - NIACC's Mustafa Hadi placed fifth Saturday at the Worthington Open at 197 pounds.
Also for the Trojans, Wyatt Hanna placed seventh at 285 pounds.
At 197 pounds, Hadi (6-3) won his first match by technical fall (16-1) over Iowa Lakes' Lincoln McCarty. Hadi was pinned by Northwestern's Reid Hulshof in 50 seconds in his quarterfinal bout.
Hadi then won three consecutive matches to claim his fifth-place finish. Hadi took a 4-1 decision from Northern State University's Tanner Meyers, stopped Morningside's Sendeska Kalskett 5-0 and won by injury default in 6:51 over Iowa Lakes' Damien Spears in the fifth-place match.
At 285 pounds, Hanna dropped his opening round match by fall to Augustana University's Caleb Kurtti in 1:49.
In the consolation round, Hanna topped NIACC's Marco Guzman by major decision (10-2) and pinned the Lakers' Jeremiah Chuol in 1:45. Northern State University's Ayden Viox edged Hanna 6-5.
Hanna (10-9) claimed the seventh-place match by forfeit over Northern State University's Nathan Schauer.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home in an ICCAC dual meet with Ellsworth. Match time in the recreation center is slated for 7 p.m.
