Trojans set to compete at national tournament
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC will have seven wrestlers competing at the NJCAA Division I National Championships Friday and Saturday at the Mid-America Center.
The tournament begins with first round matches at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Earning national qualifying berths for the Trojans are Alejandro Rodriguez (125), Isaiah Maldonado (133), Chris Williams (141), Cory Scanlan (157), Logan Straub (165), Nicky Bernard (184), Mustafa Hadi (197) and Grant Henderson (285).
Scanlan (16-8), Straub (8-12) and Bernard (15-7) all placed third at the NJCAA North Central District Championships on Sunday in Mason City. Maldonado (8-12) placed fourth, Rodriguez (9-9), Hadi (8-5) and Henderson (6-13) placed fifth and Williams (13-6) placed sixth.
Rodriguez is a two-time national qualifier as he also qualified for the 2025 national tournament at 133 pounds.
NIACC placed fourth at the district tournament with 103.5 points. Indian Hills was the district champion with 179 points and Iowa Central was second with 175 points.
