2 Trojans still alive in consy round
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Two NIACC men's wrestlers remain alive in the consolation round Friday at the NJCAA Division I national championships at the Mid-America Center.
NIACC's Cory Scanlan (157) and Nicky Bernard (184) won consolation round matches Friday afternoon and will compete in Friday night's session
At 157 pounds, Scanlan topped Kevin Mederos Castellon of Bergen 15-1. Scanlan then dropped a 11-2 decision to Keith Smith of Southeast Nebraska.
In the consolation round, Scanlan edged Kalvin LaPlant of Labette 5-1 to stay alive in the national tournament.
Scanlan (18-9) faces ninth-ranked Maguire Hoekesma of Harper in the consolation round Friday night.
At 184 pounds, Bernard nipped Braxton Robertson of Carl Albert State in his opening round match. Indian Hills' fourth-ranked John Clohency topped Bernard 8-5 in the round of 32.
Bernard topped Iowa Western's Cal Wells 4-2 in his first consolation match.
Bernard (17-8) takes on Matteo Monteiro Furtado Tresse of Umpqua in his consolation round of eight match Friday night.
