Trojans edge Central CC-Columbus, 2-1
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's soccer team nipped Central CC-Colubmus 2-1 in an ICCAC match Saturday afternoon on the NIACC campus.
NIACC (4-3-2 overall, 2-1 in the ICCAC) received a goal from sophomore Aryana Rashidi on an assist from sophomore Allison Brandt with 36 seconds remaining to lift the Trojans to the dramatic come-from-behind victory.
It was Rashidi's fifth goal of the season and ninth of her career. The nine goals is tied for seventh on the school's career goals scored luist.
NIACC, which has won two straight matches, trailed 1-0 at the half, but scored two goals in the final 45 minutes to claim the win. Freshman Rikke Vestrgard scored the Trojans' first goal (her third of the season) on a free kick at the 51-minute mark.
Central CC-Columbus (4-5-1, 0-2) took its 1-0 lead at the 4-minute mark on a goal from Hannah Janda on an assist from Aimee Collier.
NIACC sophomore Nadia Kaiser gained the win in goal. She stopped three of the four shots she faces.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at Western Iowa Tech (2-6-1, 0-2-1). Match time in Sioux City is slated for 1 p.m.
