WEST PLAINS, Mo. - The NIACC baseball team split a doubleheader against Missouri State University-West Plains on Saturday.
Missouri State-West Plains won the first game 9-6 and the Trojans salvaged a split in the twinbill with a 19-7 win in the second game.
The 19 runs by the Trojans is the most in a game this season. The Trojans' previous high run total came in a 16-6 win over UA Rich Mountain on Feb. 7.
In the second game victory, the Trojans scored seven runs in the fifth inning and plated seven more runs in the seventh inning.
The Trojans pounded out a season-high 19 hits to score their 19 runs. Jacob Neutz and Minchan Kim both had four hits for the Trojans.
The last time a NIACC player had four hits in a game was George McIntyre, who had four hits against Marshalltown CC in second game of a doubleheader on March 29, 2025.
Neutz drove in four runs, Jack Gorman had three RBIs and Tiago Cavallo, Hudson Waldow and Gage Petersen all plated two runs for the Trojans.
NIACC hit a season-high five home runs in the second-game win, including two from Neutz. Kim, Gorman and Tommy Lyman also homered for the Trojans.
It is the second time this season that a NIACC player has hit two home runs in a game. Lyman homered twice against UA-Rich Mountain on Feb. 7.
In the opener. Missouri State-West Plains scored seven of its nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings (three in the fifth and four in the sixth).
NIACC scored two runs in the second and third frames and pushed across single runs in the fourth and sixth framses.
Ben Hoffman drove in three runs for the Trojans and Neutz collected two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs.
Neutz has six home runs this and 10 for his career.
NIACC starting pitcher Caden Watson struck out six and walked two in 4 2/3 innings of work. He allowed five runs (one earned) on two hits.
NIACC (2-6 overall) wraps up its three-game series against Missouri State University-West Plains with a single game Sunday at noon.
