MCALESTER, Okla. - The NIACC baseball team opened the 2026 season by going 1-2 on Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series against UA-Rich Mountain.
On Saturday, NIACC began the 2026 season with a 16-6 five-inning victory by scoring six runs in the second inning and plating 10-runs in the fourth frame. UA-Rich Mountain won the second game 18-7 in five innings.
On Sunday, UA-Rich Mountain claimed the three-game series with a 8-7 win.
In the first game of the series on Saturday, NIACC pounded out 12 hits to score its 16 runs, which was the most for the Trojans since they topped Marshalltown CC 23-17 in second game of a doubleheader on March 28, 2025.
NIACC's Jacob Neutz and Justyn Rivera both drove in four runs. The Trojans' Tommy Lyman plated three runs.
Lyman hit two home runs for his fifth and sixth career home runs. The last time a NIACC player hit two home runs in a game was George McIntyre against Kirkwood on April 10, 2025.
The Trojans also received home runs from Neutz and Rivera in the opener.
Caden Watson (1-0) gained the win on the mound for the Trojans in the opener. Watson, who has a career record of 5-1, allowed two runs on one hit with three strikeouts and three walks in three innings pitched.
In the second game, UA-Rich Mountain scored multiple runs in its four at-bats to score its 18 runs. The Bucks scored four runs in the first inning, pushed across six runs in the second inning, plated three runs in the third frame and added five runs in the fourth inning.
NIACC scored three runs in the first inning, a single run in the second frame and added three runs in the fourth inning. Jack Terpstra droved in three runs and collected two of the Trojans' four hits.
In the final game of the series, the Bucks scored three runs in the eighth inning to take an 8-5 lead. The Trojans pushed across two runs in their last at-bat to trim the final deficit to a single run.
Neutz, Nick Parton and Kristian Shinohara all homered for the Trojans. Neutz, who plated three runs in the series' finale, now has four career home runs.
NIACC (1-2 overall) returns to action Feb. 14-15 in a three-game series against Three Rivers College in Polar Bluff, Mo. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Feb. 14 and a single game on Feb. 15.
Last season, Three Rivers College swept the Trojans in a doubleheader by the scores of 10-0 and 7-6.
