MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team split an ICCAC doubleheader with Northeast CC Sunday afternoon at Roosevelt Field.
Northeast CC (26-20 overall, 9-8 in ICCAC) won the first game 14-0 in five innings. NIACC won the second game 17-16 by scoring seven runs all with two outs in the its last at-bat in the ninth inning.
The Trojans won the second game with a walkoff walk by Tommy Lyman that scored Connor Mitchell with the winning run.
In the ninth inning, the Trojans received a two-run home run from Jacob Neutz, a solo home run from Minchan Kim and a two-run home run from Jack Gorman. Neutz' home run was his 21st of the season, which ranks fourth on the school's all-time single-season list.
The Trojans (7-33, 4-13) tied the contest at 16-16 when Justyn Rivera was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which brought in James Hagen with the tying run. Lyman then drew his bases loaded walk for his fourth RBI of the game to give the Trojans the thrilling come-from-behind victory.
Lyman was 3 for 5, including two home runs in the second game against Northeast CC. He hit a two-run home run in the third inning and a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Rivera also hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
NIACC pounded out 20 hits to score its 17 runs. Kim and Sandberg both had four hits and Gorman had three hits.
In the first game, Northeast CC scored nine of its 14 runs in the third inning.
The two teams wrap up their three-game series at 1 p.m. on Monday with a single game at Roosevelt Field.
