Trojans fall to Spartans, 20-9
MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team dropped a 20-9 ICCAC decision to Southwestern CC on Monday at Roosevelt Field.
Southwestern CC (14-26 overall) scored at least two runs in six of its seven at-bats in the scheduled nine-inning contest. The Spartans scored eight runs in the second inning while plating three runs in the fifth and sixth innings and two runs in the first third and fourth frames.
NIACC's Jacob Neutz hit two home runs with five RBIs. He hit a three-run home run in the second inning and a two-run blast in the sixth inning. Neutz has 17 home runs this season, which ranks fifth in NJCAA Division II.
Also for the Trojans at the plate Monday, sophomore Justyn Rivera was 3 for 4, including a double.
NIACC (6-25 overall, 3-5 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday in a league twinbill at Iowa Lakes. The first game in Estherville is slated to start at 1 p.m.
