NIACC's Codling places 3rd in long jump at nationals
- Codling becomes 2-time all-American
- Trojans tie school mark in 4x100
HOBBS, N.M. - NIACC's Xavier Codling placed third in the long jump Thursday in the NJCAA Division I national championships.
Codling earned his third-place finish and all-American honors with a school-record jump of 7.54 meters (24 feet, 8 3/4 inches). Cloud County's Bailey Burns was the long jump national champion with a jump of 7.80 meters (25-7) and New Mexico JC's Pavashe Muzokomba was second with a jump of 7.74 meters (25-4 3/4).
Codling broke the old school mark of 7.52 meters (24-8 1/4) by Terrence Thomas at the 2024 national championships on May 16, 2024.
Codling also placed third in the long jump at the national indoor meet with a leap of 7.39 meters (24-3).
Also Thursday, the NIACC 4x100-meter relay team tied the school record in a time of 40.64 seconds and placed 13th. The Trojans ran Angus, Codling, Alex Marchand Fierro and Tyjah Bishop.
The Trojans tied the school mark set by Thomas, Tyreese James, Josh Koffi and Quinton Ellis at the 2025 national meet.
Also in the long jump for the Trojans, Aldaine Angus placed 12th with a jump of 7.21 meters (23-7 3/4) and Kahuan Harris was 17th with a jump of 7.10 meters (23-3 1/2).
In the hammer throw, NIACC's Dylan Hensen was 21st with a toss of 44.14 meters (144-10) and Colin Rasch was 24th with a toss of 41.89 meters (137-5).
