NIACC's Codling wins 2 events at regionals
STORM LAKE - NIACC's Xavier Codling earned two first-place finishes Friday night at the NJCAA Region 11 indoor track and field championships on the Buena Vista campus.
Codling won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.11 seconds and claimed the regional long jump title with leap of 7.19 meters (23 feet, 7 1/4 inches), which ranks second on the school's indoor long jump list.
Codling is the first NIACC men's track and field athlete to win two events at the regional meet since Wal Khat won the 600 and 800 at the 2017 indoor regional meet.
NIACC's Aldaine Angus was second in the long jump with a leap of 7.13 meters (23-4 3/4), which ranks third on the school's indoor long jump list. Angus was also sixth in the 200 in a time of 22.66.
NIACC's Kahuan Harris was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.71 meters (22-0 1/4).
Codling also qualified for Saturday's finals in the 60-meter dash prelims on Friday in a time of 6.90 seconds. Angus also qualified for Saturday's 60-meter finals in 6.90.
NIACC's Colin Rasch placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.91 meters (52 feet, 2 1/2 inches), which ranks second on the school's weight throw list. The toss was two inches off the school record held by Trey Taylor in 2013.
NIACC's Gabe Hemsworth placed fourth in the 600 in a time of 1:22.47, which ranks fifth on the school's all-time 600 list. The Trojans' Alex Marchand Fierro was sixth (1:24.23) and Ra'Shaun Sinnwell was eighth (1:27.67).
In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, NIACC's Sha'vion Jackson qualiied for the finals in a time of 8.46. Marchand Fierro also qualified for the finals in a time of 8.48, which ranks fourth on the school's 60 hurdles list and Lucas Hurley qualified in a time of 8.71, which ranks seventh on the school's 60 hurdle list.
