Iowa Western stops NIACC on mat, 29-14
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The No. 7 NIACC wrestling team dropped a 29-14 decision to No. 8 Iowa Western on Wednesday night in an ICCAC dual meet.
Iowa Western also stopped the Trojans 34-11 in Mason City on Nov. 10.
NIACC picked up a fall from Quentrevion Campbell (141) and major decisions from Christian Minto (165) and Jose Valdez (197).
Campbell, who is unranked, pinned the Reivers' fifth-ranked Creighton Baughman in 2 minutes. Campbell moved his 2021-22 record to 8-0 with three falls.
Minto, who is top-ranked at 165 pounds, picked up a 15-1 major decision over Grant Lyman and improved his mark this season to 8-0. Valdez, who is ranked second at 197 pounds, gained a 14-5 major decision over Michael Aguirre to move his record this season to 9-0.
In a battle of rated wrestlers, Iowa Western's third-ranked Josh McFarland took a 9-5 decision from NIACC's seventh-ranked Chase McCleish. It was McFarland's second career win over McCleish as McFarland gained a 9-2 win in a dual meet in the 2021 season.
NIACC returns to action Feb. 9 at RCTC.
