Quarterfinal matchups are set
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC wrestling team will send eight wrestlers into Friday night's action at the NJCAA national wrestling tournament at the Mid-America Center.
NIACC will have seven wrestlers competing in the championship quarterfinals and Chase McCleish (184 pounds) is still alive in the consolation bracket.
Wrestling in the quarterfinals will be Cruz Aguilar (125), Clarence Lee-Green (133), Quentrevion Campbell (141), Deville Dentis (149), Christian Minto (165), Ein Carlos (174) and Jose Valdez (197).
In the 125-pound quarterfinals, Aguilar (11-5) faces second-ranked Garrett Ricks of Western Wyoming.
In the 133-pound quarterfinals, the ninth-ranked Lee-Green (13-6) takes on top-ranked Caleb Meekins of Indian Hills. Meekins topped Lee-Green twice during the regular season - by fall in :36 and 10-5 at the district tournament.
In the 141-pound quarterfinals, Campbell (11-1) faces Pratt's ninth-ranked Jacob Mitchell.
In the 149-pound quarterfinals, the fifth-ranked Dentis (13-4) faces Pratt's top-ranked Jake Beeson.
In the 165-pound quarterfinals, the top-ranked Minto (13-0) faces Ellsworth's ninth-ranked Mirzo Khayitov. Minto owns two wins over Khayitov this season - 7-2 in a dual meet and by fall in 6:57 at the district tournament.
In the 174-pound quarterfinals, Carlos (6-3) wrestles Northeast Oklahoma A&M's second-ranked Dayton Fields.
In the 197-pound quarterfinals, the second-ranked Valdez (14-0) takes on Western Wyoming's sixth-ranked Tyler Scheurn.
In the 184-pound third-round consolation match, McCleish (17-7) takes on RCTC's Antonio Davis.
Heading into Friday's quarterfinals, NIACC is in sixth place with 35.5 points. Northeast Oklahoma A&M is in first with 39.5 points and Iowa Central is in second with 39 points.
